Video Game System with Special Host TJ

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Today is a very rare day as my oldest son joins me on the show as we talk about video game systems and the cost it was when it was released and what it would cost in 2020.

Hello, hello, hello, welcome to another episode of Tangents with Toby, but this episode we are going to be tangents with Toby's Huh and. But you're thinking, what the hell is this guy think they're talking about? Well, you see, with me I have a special guest him his name is Tj. He's basically the mini version of me and his name is my name, to just like Jingle Jimer Hangel Benld Schmidt. Like I said before, I'm not a bright guy, but at least I kind of play the part. Oh it, DDE Hi. Okay, so yesterday and what I wanted to do was I wanted to talk about video games, what the original price was the year that it was released, and what if it was released in two thousand and twenty. Well, you said consoles before video games. Video Game Systems. Yeah, which is consoles? Yeah, all right. So, for example, in one thousand nine hundred and ninety two, the Magna Fox Odyssey, I have never heard of, that was released to one thousand nine hundred and seventy two for original price of ninety nine dollars. And you're thinking that's cheap. I could probably fart off a hundred bucks. Now that's cheap. But if you consider the adjustment for inflation, which means what I would cost today, the two thousand and twenty price would be six hundred and twelve dollars, Jay, just a little bit of a difference. Brace. Okay, here's another one, the Atari Twenty six hundred, one of the...

...first ones. Like Atari was the pioneer of video game systems. It was a release in nineteen seventy seven, before I was born, for a hundred ninety nine dollars. Okay, you also have to realize minimum wage, or what you got paid, was like a dollar. If that. Wait, what year were you born in? One thousand nine hundred and seventy nine. So the Atari Twenty six hundred was two hundred bucks when it was brand new back in nineteen and thirty seven. That was almost probably a mortgage payment. And what do you think would cost in two thousand and twenty if it was released that Um? Maybe four thousand, four thousand and sixty one, close eight hundred and forty three dollars. He's searching that up. I have of all the systems. Kay. So we're just going to move on a bit. Kaliko Vision Anti June in Uncle Arn had when it came out in nineteen eighty two, it was a hundred seventy five dollars. What do you think it would cost if was released in two thousand and twenty? Um, six thousand two high. Okay, it's in like the hundreds. Yes, okay, four hundred and sixty eight. Are you serious, Bro? Four hundred...

...and sixty six dollars. How the heck did you pull that out of your butt? Wow, oh, wow, wow. Okay, Nintendo, the original Nintendo, the system. I think this would be the second system that I've ever owned, was released in one thousand nine hundred and eighty five. It the original price was two hundred, two thousand and twenty. What would have the cost? Just remember, things have gone up in night. Is it in the thousand snow there's only one. There's only two, two systems that are in the thousands, and those aren't it? Okay, Um, six hundred. No, that's nine hundred, eight hundred and seventy four. No, four hundred and seventy nine, oh, which still isn't that bad. Sega Genesis Saga, one thousand nine hundred and eighty nine and the price was a hundred eighty nine dollars. What would be the price in two thousand and twenty? Is it in the fastest? No, nine hundred and twenty six. NOPE, you're getting way higher than it should be. Three hundred and ninety five. But now, okay, two years later, the Super...

Nintendo was released for a hundred and ninety nine dollars, which the retail price for two thousand and twenty would be three hundred seventy seven dollars. Now we're getting into the thousands. All Right, are you ready? Are you ready? The Neo Geo was released in one thousand nine hundred and ninety one for six hundred and forty dollars. What would the price be in two thousand and twenty? Four thousand and three hundred and sixty three, a little one thousand, two hundred and forty dollars. The other one, which Panasonic. They had a great idea, but they what happened is their price was just a little too high, because when it was released in one thousand nine hundred and ninety three, it was seven hundred dollars. Okay. What would the price be in two or two thousand and twenty? Whit didn't you say? It's in the thousands. Yes, two thousand four hundred and twenty six. I'm not bad. Getting better. One thousand, two hundred and forty seven dollars. So this is two thousand. Yeah, but just think. People are bitching about the price now. But there are people, and I know a person, that actually bought a pan of Sonic Radio and let me tell you, it was insane. Like, for example, it had better graphics in...

...the playstation and this thing came out was a two years before the playstation. It had a better soundtrack, the graphics were better, it could play DVDs like Panasonic. Was Way ahead of their time, massively. Okay, in one thousand nine hundred and ninety five, playstation one was released. Two hundred and ninety nine. What would be the price? It's in the hundreds, six hundred and forty three, five hundred and eight. Okay. Playstation two was released in two thousand for three hundred, mm five thousand. No, Huh, five hundred and sixteen, four hundred forty seven dollars. But now get this, all right, playstation two, listen to playstation three. You could go digital or you could go regularly. Think four hundred and ninety nine or five hundred and ninety nine. So there's two different versions. Right, I'm just going to tell you a price for the first one. It's six hundred and forty three. The second one is seven hundred and seventy two.

Playstation Four. This is the weird thing. Like playstation four was four hundred dollars. With what I would cost in two thousand and twenty would be about four hundred and forty six. So as soon as these state like these video game systems come out, lately they haven't really gone up too much in price. But yeah, it just it was absolutely insane just taking a look at these prices and I'm thinking of myself, like, for example, I had the Atari like twenty six hundred back in the day, and I'm thinking to myself, how did Grahama paid for that? Then we had a Nintendo, she paid for it, Sega Genesis, she paid for it, playstation one, she paid forward, and it's like how like when the playstation came out, I got my job, my very first one, working with grandma, and I was making four dollars and thirty five cents. That's not a lot compared to what I'm making now. Okay, making now, I won't tell you, but that's another another story. People complain about the price of video games. Okay, HMM. I remember back in the day, when I was younger, walking into Canadian tire, walking over to the video game section and seeing Nhl Ninety six and it was up for sale for ninety dollars. That was back in the day. And everybody keeps complaining, Oh, get...

...games are so expensive. It's like no, if they really aren't, they're actually cheaper today than it was back in the day. So I don't know, it's just it's weird how, over time, video games will go from it's just it's weird. It's frustrating. Oh yeah, so what do you think? What is your favorite game system? Okay, just remember you've played three hundred and sixty xbox one and you have played the playstation too emulator as well as the Nintendal switch. It sucks three hundred and sixty. Yeah, I'M gonna have to agree with you on that one. They have better hockey games. Well, you don't like the newer ones. Know, they're just if I just like playing old games. Yeah, you're a retro. The one thing, okay, the one thing that I really, really hate nowadays when it comes to video games is these game like the game companies now they if they find a gold mine, they'll stick with it and they'll promote it. They'll make sure the games like absolutely awesome. For example, rock star with grand theft auto, and read it the amount of games that they had before. Yeah, you know they're okay, but now they hit a mask. Gol Mind. The the grand theft auto franchise is worth billions of dollars...

...and of course they're going to spend a lot of money on that just because it's insane. When the new grant theft auto comes out, I want to see that. Yeah, I feel like you would be more realistic than grand theft out of five. Yeah, they're going to be doing that. Like I heard that it's going to be like the world map is going to be bigger. So you can have a city, then you can go to another city which is a keep him farther, and there's going to be different city like there's gonna be cities from different grand theft Dato Games. Well, that'd be kind of cool, but you know what they've really somebody should really do. All right, we have Google maps, right, and you can go and check out driving down be like, okay, drive for example, we can put a little pin in front of our house, take a look and be like, oh, that's where we live now. But could you imagine this? You do that button side like for GTA six. So then you could go all around have a racing car game. But the only thing is, instead of actually having a plot for it, like you can play need for speed and all of a sudden there's a storyline like, oh my God, Johnny, you gotta give me to the airport so I can stop my ex from going on because the point is going to crush. Oh, so on. Instead of that, you basically hop into this massive world. If you're, say, in Fargo, north to quote it, for example, just shot in the dark, you could actually download the city onto your system. Then you can drive up and down each street any place at the Google...

...maps have been. You can actually follow the same path. Or like when we're at we're here in southern Saskatchewan, in our city, we could actually go through the trailer park and just, you know, drive around, seeing all the houses and things like that. The houses won't be like really, really detailed, but you can tell which house is which. Now that would be an interesting game. Oh yeah, I heard Um some people's in saying that there might be real shitties in America coming to the game. Like grand off out of six not be kind of fun? So then you could go to the place that you always wanted to be and see the places. If there's kids in the game, that would be bad. No, but what if you hit them with a car? It'll be just like everybody else. Just jump out of the way or get bumped and you to go flying. They get up and they run off. What if you shoot the kid? Why would you want to shoot the kid? You know what, one game I wish I can find the regular like the other discs for saints row. I like that one so much better than grantuff auto. I've had a lot of people tell me that I was stupid for liking saints row, but I find that the storyline to it, it was a lot more fun. The gangs to add a little bit extra possess and I don't know, it just...

...to me seems like a better off game than grant theft auto. But I I think that saints row is kind of like GTA, Sant and race. There's gangs. You could you're in a gang, you could start killing people or you could buy new clothes. Almost everything's like GTA. Yeah, that's true. Did you wanna get money for trying to copy GTA? But it doesn't look like it, but they are. Well, everybody's like that, though, and that's one thing about competition. Is like, for example, when when to K five came out, it was competing with EA sports. So they try adding a few extra details and things like that, but the one thing I liked about K is they were, what was it like? Almost forty cheaper than EA at the time. I think I picked it up for thirty bucks. Play it. I liked it, it was better and it was just one of those things that I found just so much better in general. But I just personally would rather play that other game. Thank yeah, Broh. Yeah, but that's a bring for who already well, that will be the episode for today.
